Boston Veterinary Clinic (Seaport)

In March 2026, the UK's Competition and Markets Authority finished a market investigation into veterinary care and ordered reforms. One of them is about exactly what this app tracks: "Vet businesses must make it clear whether they are part of a group or an independent business – common ownership will be displayed on signage, at the premises and online."

The regulator's reasoning is in its own report: "Less than half of people using a large veterinary group knew that their practice was part of a chain." It also ordered practices to publish price lists and provide written estimates for expensive treatment.

We did not find a similar requirement in Massachusetts, so take Boston Veterinary Clinic as an example. It has clinics in Bay Village, the Seaport and Charlestown, and its own 2022 announcement described it as Boston's leading family veterinary clinic that had "secured minority investment from Denali Growth Partners." It says all of its locations "operate as one network."

The Seaport clinic's job posting adds a piece the clinic's homepage does not: "As part of the Mission Pet Health family, you get the stability of a local practice backed by the comprehensive benefits and resources of a larger network." We could not confirm who owns Mission Pet Health from a primary source.

Other Boston clinics show the same range. Back Bay Veterinary Clinic is owned through National Veterinary Associates, which JAB Holding controls. BluePearl and Banfield belong to Mars. Angell Animal Medical Center is a nonprofit run by the Massachusetts SPCA, and Jamaica Plain Animal Clinic says it is independently owned.

We do not compare prices clinic by clinic, because we have no verified data to do that. What we can do is put the ownership on the page, which is what the UK regulator decided pet owners should have.
